🧭 Basic Explanation
In Southern Cyprus, there are two completely different immigration statuses for foreigners who want to own property or live on the island:

  • Permanent Residence (Permanent Residence Permit – PRP)
  • Citizenship (Cyprus Citizenship)

Although both allow long-term residence, they differ in rights, obligations, processing time, and benefits within the EU.


1️⃣ Permanent Residence (PRP)

📘 Basic Information
Permanent residence (Investor Permanent Residency – category F or 6(2)) allows a foreigner and their family to live, own property, and reside long-term in Cyprus without a visa.

It is the fastest and most accessible form of legal residence in the EU.

🧩 Requirements

  • Minimum investment: €300,000 + VAT (purchase of a new property from a developer)
  • Proven annual income: min. €50,000 + €15,000 for spouse + €10,000 per child
  • Proof of income source outside Cyprus
  • Property must be completed and intended for personal use

⏱️ Processing Time
Approval within 3–4 months from application submission.

🏛️ Basic Information
Cyprus citizenship grants full rights as an EU citizen, including:

  • Right to live and work in any EU country
  • Right to vote
  • Issuance of a Cyprus Passport

🧩 Ways to Obtain Citizenship

  • Naturalization – after a period of residence:
    • At least 5 years of legal residence (last year continuous)
    • For spouses of Cypriot citizens: 3 years of marriage + 2 years residence
  • By descent or birth – if a parent is a Cypriot citizen
  • Investment program (now abolished) – Citizenship by Investment ended in 2020
