Water, electricity, internet – North Cyprus

Water, electricity, internet – North Cyprus

📌 1. Water services (Smart Water Meters)
TRNC is introducing smart water meters, where water is paid in advance using a “water meter card” – a rechargeable card assigned to a specific meter, operating outside the debit system
brstrnc.com.

Comment according to BRS Living Here:

The card is obtained at the relevant belediyesi (municipal office) upon presentation of an ID, title deed, or contract.

To top up the card, first insert it into the water meter and press the button so the meter status is updated

2. Electricity – Kib-Tek
The electricity supply network is operated by the state company Kib-Tek. A standard post-paid meter is used, but online and kiosk payments are widely available infonorthcyprus.com.

Payment options:

  • Online via the Kib-Tek website/app, bank standing orders, SMS/email invoices with a payment link
  • Kiosks or payment points (payment points marked “Fatura Ödeme Noktası”, including supermarkets)

Deposit when activating the service:

  • New builds: approximately £ 1 000.
  • Older apartment: approx. 1 407 TL (or 469 TL with a Turkish guarantor)

🌐 3. Internet and mobile services
Main providers: Turkcell, Telsim, Vodafone Telsim.

They offer mobile internet, prepaid SIM cards, and Redbox / ADSL home internet

Internet payments:

  • You can pay via the Paycell mobile app – it also includes payments for water, electricity, internet, and municipal fees
  • Utility payment fee via Paycell: 6.99 TL per bill

🧾 4. Aggregated payments – Paycell
Paycell Cyprus (a digital wallet by Turkcell) allows:

  • Payment of electricity, water, internet, and other fees via a mobile app or QR payments
  • Top-ups via card or bank transfers.
  • Fee of 7 TL per utility payment
  • Usable also for non-Turkcell customers

Practical recommendations
When setting up your water supply, request a water meter card at the municipal office immediately.

For prepaid internet and mobile services, we recommend a rechargeable SIM card from the operator (Telsim, Turkcell, Vodafone).

Paycell is the most convenient solution: a central app for all utilities, QR payments, and easy top-ups.

When buying property, have ready:

  • ID, title deed, or rental contract to activate services.

When traveling away from your registered address (holidays / change of location), monitor limited balances to avoid service interruptions.
